Mark Haynes, M.Ed., LAT, ATC, is a clinical Athletic Trainer for Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. He grew up in Lenox, Iowa where he participated in four sports and was a wrestling state champion. Mark attended Drake University on a Div. I. wrestling scholarship for one year. While at Drake University, Mark was introduced to athletic training by Lonnie Clark (PT/ATC) who cared for the Drake athletes. Mark then transferred to Iowa State University and graduated in 1981 with a B.S. in Physical Education and Athletic Training. His first athletic training job was in Marshall, Texas in 1982, for 2 years, followed by 7 years in Hallsville, Texas. While in Texas he completed a master of educational administration degree at Stephen F. Austin University in 1985. In 1991 he was offered a job with Baxter Regional Medical Center and has been there 17 years. This summer Mark will be moving to Northwest Arkansas and will be the ATC for the new Rogers Heritage position.
As an AATA member Mark has worked on the state meeting committee, education committee, SWATA committees and served as vice president, president and past president. He was a volunteer with the USOC in Colorado Springs in 2000. In 2004 he was awarded the Baxter Regional Medical Center “Legend” award as a member of the first group of five to be chosen out of 1200 employees. He serves on a Baxter County committee to combat childhood obesity and is also on the editorial board of a local magazine, “Living Well”.
Mark has been married to Tammy, a school counselor and elementary teacher, for 28 years. Tammy, who is Mark’s hero, loves sports as much as he does. She has allowed him the freedom to move and excel as an athletic trainer, while being supportive and providing a stable, fun and loving home for Mark, Jake, many pets and any other kids who might need a snack or a hug. Mark and Tammy have one son, Jake, who attends the University of Arkansas as a freshman. Mark’s most treasured memory as an athletic trainer was helping the Mountain Home football team during the state championship game while Jake was their quarterback. Mark believes that there are only a few professions where you can watch your child participate in every practice and game for their entire career while you are doing something you love. He is honored to share the athletic training profession with so many great individuals.
